In 1994-95, a small pool magazine emerged from the wreckage of the first players lockout under the tutelage of new NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
Fitting that as the first lockout ushered in the first print edition of the regular season staple, the latest lockout marked a definitive end to print, ushering in a new era of electronic media as evidenced by our brand new, shiny site.
It's been 18 seasons since that first edition, and the magazine changed over the years.
The first cover featured stars of the day, Doug Gilmour and Sergei Fedorov locked in a puck battle.
Contributions from various mainstream writers have graced the pages through the years. Scott Morrison, Gord Stellick, Red Fisher, Damian Cox to name a few.
This isn't about contributors, it's about the changing of the cover over the years.
While the Pittsburgh Penguins star Mario lemiuex graced the cover in 2001-02, Wayne Gretzky did not appear on any cover.
Using the current cover, the mosaic below represents every cover in McKeen's publishing history, along with various pages that have graced the inside from 1994 to 2012. Clicking on the image will blow it up to see more detail.
NOTE** I am hoping to make the image interactive but haven't found a solution just yet.
